the Outlaw Demon Wails might be the book that jumps the shark for that series... The heroine still isn't a Anita, but she's beginning to succumb to super special heroine syndrome...
I hated Evil Genes. I don't succumb to the genetics is all theory, I believe in free will, that we can be more than our biology.
The author clearly didn't. I find the biology trumps all to be used to excuse bad behavior far too frequently
