"Reporter: Senator, how are you going to help the American auto worker?

Obama: Hold, hold on one second, sweetie—we're gonna do, we'll do a press availability…"

It's not the first time.  It's the second time that he's been caught at this.

A female reporter is not "sweetie".

I have a habit of referring to people as "hon" or "darling".  I get it from some of my relatives.  It's a habit that I really should try to break myself of, but I tend to call both male and females this way, and I do try to break the habit.

I never once do this at work.  Never in a professional setting.  Never to anyone other than a friend or non-professional acquaintance.  Never when there is a power differential.

He should know better.  He should care better.  Calling a female reporter "sweetie" and ignoring her question just doesn't fly.
