Wow, not even trying to hide the evil these days.

Republic State Senator Dave Schultheis  (Colorado) votes against a bill that would make mandatory HIV testing (with the option to opt out for the woman) for pregnant women.

Why?

"Sen. Dave Schultheis, of Colorado Springs, on Wednesday opposed a bill requiring pregnant women to be tested for HIV so that if they are infected their babies can be treated to prevent the virus's transfer.

"This stems from sexual promiscuity for the most part, and I just can't go there," he said."

And then he felt he had to explain himself some more:

"“What I’m hoping is that, yes, that person may have AIDS, have it seriously as a baby and when they grow up, but the mother will begin to feel guilt as a result of that,” he said. “The family will see the negative consequences of that promiscuity and it may make a number of people over the coming years begin to realize that there are negative consequences and maybe they should adjust their behavior.”

You see, it is possible for a woman with HIV to give birth to a HIV-free infant - if she knows about her disease in advance and precautions are taken.

But, nope, this man wants the child to be sick.

Ass.

Mandatory HIV testing for pregnant women? Wow talk about violation of personal rights. What's next, mandatory abortions if it's positive?

It's an opt out kind of thing.

No women has to have the test.

I suspect it's really an health insurance sort of thing - make it mandatory (with the option for the women to opt out without penalty), and it becomes part of the suite of tests that are routinely done, and routinely covered by any health insurance that offers prenatal care.

I know of no health insurance company that won't pay for an HIV test. There may be something else going on, but I don't know what the legislative intent on this one.

What? "Yes, I hope the baby gets AIDS and grows up with a serious case of it, because hopefully that will make the slut mother feel guilty! And hopefully it will make the slut's family suffer! And I hope people will watch them suffer and think - they deserve all that shit because the mom was obviously a slut, she couldn't possibly have gotten AIDS without being a slut; I'm better than she is and not a slut, therefore I'll never get AIDS."

I swear that's what it sounded like.

Or to be generous: "Anyone who gets a sex disease clearly deserves horrible punishment including having their children and families suffer for a lifetime; therefore we should never take any steps to prevent this from happening."

Just vile.
